Credit Requirements

Minimum ECTS Credits Required: 60 ECTS credits

Your degree programme must include at least 60 ECTS credits in Religious Educationor closely related modules. These credits must be from a Level 8 degree programme (as defined by the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland).

Note: Only ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are accepted for Subject Declaration Forms. Credits from other systems (such as CATS or US credits) cannot be used.

Essential Areas of Study

Minimum 5 essential areas required. You must cover at least 5 of the following areas:

  • Sacred Texts including the Bible
  • Christianity – Origins and Contemporary Experience
  • World Religions
  • Secular Belief Systems
  • Ethics
  • Systematic Theology
  • Philosophy of Religion

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Religious Education Subject Declaration Form, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold or be pursuing a Level 8 degree programme (as defined by the NFQ in Ireland)
  • Have completed modules in Religious Education or closely related areas
  • Have sufficient ECTS credits in Religious Education (60 credits minimum)
  • Modules must be from an ECTS-credited programme
  • Cover the required essential areas of study listed above
  • Have studied Religious Education up to and including third-year level or higher
