Credit Requirements

Minimum ECTS Credits Required: 60 ECTS credits

Your degree programme must include at least 60 ECTS credits in Home Economicsor closely related modules. These credits must be from a Level 8 degree programme (as defined by the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland).

Note: Only ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are accepted for Subject Declaration Forms. Credits from other systems (such as CATS or US credits) cannot be used.

Essential Areas of Study

All essential areas are required. You must cover all of the following areas:

  • Food Studies (including the integration of theory and practice)
  • Textiles, Fashion Design and Home Design (including garment construction and practical craft work)
  • Family Resource Management and Social Studies

Additional Requirements

Practical Work: Practical work is required for this subject.

Year Level Requirement: Home Economics must be studied up to and including third-year level or higher.

  • Hold or be pursuing a Level 8 degree programme (as defined by the NFQ in Ireland)
  • Have completed modules in Home Economics or closely related areas
