Overview

A Subject Declaration Form (SDF) for Curricular Languages demonstrates that you have completed sufficient study in this subject area to teach it at secondary level in Ireland. The Teaching Council of Ireland requires this form as part of the teacher registration process.

Subject Description

Modern languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish

Credit Requirements

Minimum ECTS Credits Required: 60 ECTS credits

Your degree programme must include at least 60 ECTS credits in Curricular Languagesor closely related modules. These credits must be from a Level 8 degree programme (as defined by the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland).

Note: Only ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are accepted for Subject Declaration Forms. Credits from other systems (such as CATS or US credits) cannot be used.

  • The Study of Texts

Special Notes: Requires B2.2 linguistic competence and immersive educational experience

Year Level Requirement: Curricular Languages must be studied up to and including third-year level or higher.

  • Have completed modules in Curricular Languages or closely related areas

  • Cover the required essential areas of study listed above
  • Have studied Curricular Languages up to and including third-year level or higher
